Take It Or Leave It?

Recently, my sister and I were discussing the process of moving from one house to another, and she said something which struck a chord with me on a couple different levels.  She said something like, “It’s like you have to tell yourself, ‘I really don’t need to take that with me into a new home.'”

It caught my attention because, in our last move, PR31 and I had said many times while packing that we didn’t want to take something to the new home.  We would rather get rid of it there before we move because it didn’t fit in our new setting.

But it thundered through my synapses on a whole different levers as well.  You see, all of us face times in life when we segue from one phase of life into another. Maybe it’s a change in jobs… or location… or relationships.  And we need to ask ourselves if there are some things which should be left behind.  We need to identify those things which do not need to be brought into a new setting.

Perhaps it’s an attitude which you need to get rid of so that you can move forward in a relationship.  Maybe it’s unforgiveness you need to sell in your emotional and relational garage sale before you can move forward into the next phase of your career.  Or maybe it’s a habit you need to toss in the trash so you can move forward into the next level of life.

Whatever the issue… the hang-up… the attitude… the feelings… the chip on your shoulder… the hurt… the guilt… the shame… whatever it is, leave it behind.  You really don’t need to pack it up and take it with you.  It’s not going to fit in with what’s next in your life looks like.  In fact, it might actually hinder you from being able to move forward into what is next.

So jettison what won’t work from where you are now, and get ready to find the new where you’re headed!  Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
