I was talking with someone recently about our life situation and how we are in a process of discovering “what’s next” for us. In the midst of the conversation, I mentioned what a strange sense of peace we have about the Lord having everything under control.
That’s when I was reminded of the account in Mark 4 about Jesus and His disciples in a boat… on the Sea of Galilee… at night… when a storm suddenly blew in out of nowhere. And as I thought about that situation, it hit me that we can either have peace in the midst of the panic, or panic in the midst of the peace.
The disciples were freaking out, even though they had the Creator of the world in the boat with them. He was sleeping, even though there was a massive storm raging and 12 disciples freaking out. He had peace in the midst of the panic… they had panic in the midst of the peace.
And really, it’s our choice. We can choose to stay at peace despite how crazy things seem to be all around us. Or we can choose to let go of the control of our emotions and panic despite the fact that we have the Creator of our world right beside us and He isn’t worried a bit.
I believe He will give us His peace to quiet the storm inside us… and I believe that He will speak peace to quiet the storm around us… if we will choose peace over panic.
So, c’mon, people… let’s choose peace today!
